Apple Bread Treat (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Bread Pudding

01 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
02 - 3 large apples, peeled and diced into 1/2-inch pieces
03 - 1 pound challah or brioche, cubed into 1-inch chunks
04 - 1/4 teaspoon salt
05 - 4 tablespoons butter, unsalted
06 - 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ground
07 - 1/2 cup brown sugar, lightly packed

→ Custard

08 - 1/2 cup granulated sugar
09 - 4 large eggs
10 - 2 1/2 cups whole milk

→ Bourbon Sauce

11 - 1/4 cup heavy cream
12 - 3 tablespoons bourbon
13 - 1/2 cup unsalted butter
14 - 1 cup light brown sugar

# Instructions:

01 - Preheat your oven to 350°F. Spread the bread chunks on a baking sheet and toast for about 10 minutes until they’re slightly golden.
02 - In a skillet, soften the apples with butter, brown sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt for about 5 minutes.
03 - Whisk together the eggs, milk, and sugar until everything’s smooth and mixed well.
04 - Grease a 9x13 pan. Combine the bread chunks and cooked apples in it, then pour the custard over everything. Let it rest for 15 minutes.
05 - Bake the dish for roughly 40 minutes or until it’s set and a knife stuck in the center comes out clean.
06 - Melt butter and brown sugar in a saucepan, add cream, and stir for a couple of minutes. Mix in bourbon and let it gently simmer for a minute.

# Notes:

01 - Stale bread skips needing a toasting step.
02 - Store the sauce and pudding in separate containers.
03 - You can make it in advance and heat it up later.
