Hearty Joe Dip (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Base Mix

01 - 2 teaspoons kosher salt
02 - 1 tablespoon brown sugar
03 - 1 small yellow onion, chopped into small cubes
04 - 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
05 - 2 pounds ground beef
06 - 1 teaspoon garlic powder

→ Sauce

07 - 3 tablespoons water
08 - 1 1/2 cups ketchup
09 - 1 cup beef broth
10 - 3 tablespoons cornstarch
11 - 2 teaspoons mustard (yellow)

→ Topping & Serving

12 - Bagel chips or toasted baguette slices to serve
13 - 1 1/2 cups grated cheddar, split up

# Instructions:

01 - Adjust oven rack to about 6 inches below the broiler, then turn broiler on.
02 - Brown the beef with onion, brown sugar, and the seasonings in a skillet that can go in the oven. Drain if you want.
03 - Pour in the broth, mustard, and ketchup. Mix cornstarch and water, then stir into the pan until the sauce thickens.
04 - Take skillet off the heat. Stir in 1 cup of the cheese until melted. Add the rest on top.
05 - Broil for 3 to 5 minutes until the cheese turns bubbly and gooey. Pair with your choice of chips or baguettes.

01 - Optional: skim off the fat after cooking the beef.
02 - Best served fresh so the cheese is perfectly gooey.
