Holiday Orange Treats (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Base for Candy

01 - 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
02 - 1/2 cup water
03 - 1/2 cup light corn syrup
04 - 2 cups granulated sugar

→ Flavors

05 - A few drops of orange food dye (optional)
06 - 2 teaspoons orange essence
07 - 1/4 cup finely grated orange peel

# Instructions:

01 - Put down a piece of parchment paper on a baking pan, then rub a bit of oil over it.
02 - Combine sugar, corn syrup, water, and tartar in a sturdy saucepan. Stir it up on medium heat until the sugar is dissolved.
03 - Turn the heat up to medium-high. Let it boil without touching until it hits between 300°F and 310°F, roughly 7-10 minutes.
04 - Take the pan off the heat. Gently mix in the zest, orange flavor, and food coloring if you'd like to use it.
05 - Carefully pour the candy mixture onto your parchment-covered tray. Use a heat-safe spatula to push it out into a thin sheet.
06 - Let the candy fully harden. Smash it into chunks with a spoon or a small hammer.

# Notes:

01 - Bright and citrusy orange-flavored hard candy
02 - Keep stored in a sealed container to avoid sticking together
03 - Great for gifting—wrap pieces individually in wax paper
