Stout Chocolate Coffee Cake (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

01 - 1½ cups stout beer (best with Guinness)
02 - 3 cups sugar
03 - 3 cups plain flour
04 - 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
05 - ⅔ cup sour cream
06 - 3 large eggs, at room temperature
07 - 1 teaspoon salt
08 - 3 cups cocoa powder
09 - 2¼ teaspoons baking powder
10 - 1½ cups cold, unsalted butter

→ Coffee Frosting Ingredients

11 - 2 cups powdered sugar
12 - 1 tablespoon water
13 - 1½ cups soft, unsalted butter
14 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
15 - 1½ tablespoons instant espresso mix
16 - Optional: chocolate sprinkles for topping

# Instructions:

01 - Melt butter with beer in a saucepan until bubbly. Take off heat and whisk in cocoa until smooth. Let it cool down to room temperature.
02 - Stir dry ingredients in one bowl. Mix eggs, sour cream, and vanilla in another. Combine wet with the beer mixture, then fold in the dry mixture until you can't see any dry spots.
03 - Divide batter into two 9-inch pans. Bake at 350°F for about 35 to 38 minutes. Let the layers cool completely before moving on.
04 - Beat butter and powdered sugar together until fluffy. Stir espresso powder with water; pour into the mix with vanilla and continue beating until all blended.
05 - Spread frosting between the two layers. Completely cover the outside with the rest. Sprinkle chocolate over the top if you'd like.
