Baked Red Velvet Sticks (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Churros

01 - 1 cup regular flour
02 - 2 teaspoons plain cocoa powder
03 - ⅓ cup low-fat butter
04 - 2 tablespoons cooking oil
05 - 1 cup water
06 - ¼ cup dark sugar
07 - 2 teaspoons red coloring or 1 tablespoon beet juice
08 - ½ teaspoon salt
09 - 1 teaspoon vanilla flavor
10 - 1 large egg, not cold

→ Coating

11 - ¼ cup fine sugar

→ Serving

12 - Hazelnut spread or melted chocolate for dunking

# Instructions:

01 - Heat your oven to 390°F. Put some baking paper on your tray.
02 - Stir flour and cocoa powder together.
03 - Warm up butter with oil. Pour in water, dark sugar, coloring, and salt. Let it bubble for 5 minutes. Dump in flour mix.
04 - Let it sit for 10 minutes to cool down. Add vanilla and egg, mixing till smooth.
05 - Squeeze out 4-inch lines onto your paper. Cook for 10 minutes at 390°F, then another 7-10 minutes at 350°F.
06 - Roll hot churros in sugar. Enjoy them with some chocolate on the side.

# Notes:

01 - Try using a sturdy piping bag with two layers or a press for cookies
02 - Beet juice works great if you don't have food dye
