Warm Apple Bread (Print Version)

# Ingredients:

→ Main Ingredients

01 - 1/4 teaspoon salt
02 - 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
03 - 1 pound challah or brioche, diced into 1-inch chunks
04 - 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
05 - 4 tablespoons unsalted butter (to cook filling)
06 - 3 large apples, peeled and chopped into 1/2-inch pieces
07 - 1/2 cup light brown sugar (to sweeten filling)

→ Custard

08 - 4 large eggs
09 - 2 1/2 cups whole milk
10 - 1/2 cup white sugar

→ Bourbon Sauce

11 - 3 tablespoons bourbon
12 - 1/2 cup unsalted butter
13 - 1/4 cup heavy cream
14 - 1 cup light brown sugar

# Instructions:

01 - Start by heating the oven to 350°F. Spread bread chunks on a baking tray and toast them for around 10 minutes or until they’re slightly golden.
02 - Heat up the apples with vanilla, butter, light brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Stir and cook for about 5 minutes until they soften nicely.
03 - In a bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, and sugar until the mixture looks smooth.
04 - Grease a 9x13 pan, then mix the warm apples and bread cubes in it. Pour the custard over everything and let it sit for 15 minutes to soak.
05 - Pop it in the oven and bake for about 40 minutes until the top is nicely set and golden. It’s ready when a knife comes out clean.
06 - In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar together. Stir in the cream for 2 minutes, and then add bourbon. Let it simmer for 1 more minute.

# Notes:

01 - Skip toasting if using older bread.
02 - Store sauce separately from the pudding for the best results.
03 - You can prepare this ahead of time and warm it up when ready to serve.
