Ready for the crunchiest, easiest onion rings ever—no deep fryer mess! I always dreaded the oily cleanup, but air fryer onion rings changed everything for me. They're golden and crunchy all over. My first batch? Gone in a flash—my kids wanted seconds before I even grabbed a plate.

How These Top Deep Fried Ones

Honestly, nothing against a restaurant onion ring, but these are next level! Panko makes them super crisp in the air fryer, and the onions stay sweet and soft inside. My neighbor thought I picked up takeout when she tried them during my kitchen tests. And I love that my counters stay clean, the air smells good, and they cook in a breeze!

Stuff You Need

  • For Seriously Good Rings: Vidalia or yellow onions (go for the bigger ones), all-purpose flour with a scoop of cornstarch for extra snap, eggs, crunchy panko breadcrumbs, paprika and garlic powder for jazz, salt, pepper, and any neutral cooking spray you like.
  • For The Killer Dip: Ketchup, real mayo, and any extras you like tossed in.

Time To Cook These Up

Get Your Prep Set
Start by laying out your ingredients in a line—it goes way smoother that way! Place your bowls in this order: panko at the end, eggs in the middle, flour mix first. Trust me, things get a little messy—but that's all part of it!
Crust That Rings
This is when things get good! Coat each ring in seasoned flour, dunk it in egg, then press on those panko crumbs so they really stick. I keep one hand for wet, one for dry—makes a difference!
Let The Air Fryer Work
Spray your air fryer basket first, set the rings down in a single layer (give 'em space), spritz the tops too, and let them crisp up. That's it—easy!

Top Tricks

Want the best results? Sweet onions always for that deep caramel flavor. Cornstarch in your flour is the real secret—super crisp every time. And spray those rings before you fry, don’t skip it—that’s how you get that amazing color!

Best Things To Eat With Them

While the rings fry up, mix up that simple dip! Seriously addictive. Sometimes I'll splash in some hot sauce or pickle brine for extra zing. They're fantastic next to burgers—last cookout, the onion rings vanished first! Or just eat them solo as a crunchy snack.

Leftovers Heat Up Great

If any are left (doubtful!), pop them back in the air fryer for a few minutes at 350°F, and they’re crispy again. I sometimes make a bigger batch to snack on through the week, but honestly they disappear fast! That crunchy crust is just too good to resist.

Change Things Up

Switch up your flavors! Toss some ranch mix or cayenne into the crumbs. Stir BBQ sauce or honey mustard into your dip. One time I mixed ranch into the panko and my kids went wild!

Our Favorite Part

These aren't just for the side—they're a total treat! They're great for hanging out on game day, movie marathons, or just because you want something tasty. Whenever I make a batch, people want to know how I did it. Making restaurant-style snacks at home is just the best, especially when it's this easy and yum!

Frequently Asked Questions

→ Is it okay to swap panko for regular breadcrumbs?
You sure can use regular breadcrumbs, but panko gets you that big crunch. The texture will be a bit different, and you might want to tweak cooking time. They'll still taste good though.
→ How do I keep onion rings for later?
Pop any leftover rings in a container with a good lid and keep them in the fridge for 2 days tops. When you want to eat, reheat in the air fryer at 350°F for about 2 or 3 minutes until they're hot and crisp again.
→ Can I make them gluten-free?
Yep, it's easy! Just switch out regular flour and breadcrumbs for gluten-free versions. Also, double-check your cornstarch to make sure it's gluten-free too.
→ Which onions should I grab?
Sweet yellow onions are perfect, but white or red onions will totally work. Just slice them up evenly so they all cook the same.
→ Is it possible to prep the dipping sauce before?
Definitely! Fix your dipping sauce in advance, stash it in the fridge (in a lidded container), and it'll be good for up to a week. Makes snack time way faster.

In one bowl, stir together the cornstarch, salt, flour, and pepper. Beat the milk and eggs in another bowl. Fill the final bowl with panko crumbs.

Combine the ketchup and mayo in a small dish until smooth.
